When I first met with Kristy and Steve to discuss their engagement session, they asked if I was willing to travel to the East Coast.
NYC has always been on my bucket list so that was a quick YES from me.
We narrowed down a list of “must see” places and made a plan to visit in May when the weather was nicer. We planned for a 7 day trip to be able to visit all of the places that were special to Kristy and Steve.
Stay tuned for more as this is just part 1 of 5 blog posts to showcase our epic adventures!
Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass
DUMBO is one of those magical places that you always see on TV and in photos and wonder if it’s really like that “in real life”.
Honestly, it’s BEYOND real life. Nothing can beat the experience of being there. Smelling the smells, seeing the sights, feeling the feels. Seriously. It’s majestic.
New York is a city that never sleeps. There are people everywhere, all day long. We quickly realized that if we wanted to experience this iconic view sans people, a sunrise session was going to have to happen.
We checked the weather for the next morning and made plans to wake up before the sun. (HUGE shoutout to Kristy who woke up at 3am for hair and makeup.)
Arriving in Brooklyn before sunrise allowed us the experience of a quiet and serene DUMBO.
I’m not a morning person but I will wake up at the crack of dawn anytime for these views!
After exploring DUMBO and the little parks in the area, we headed over to Empire Stores. I loved all of the texture in this area.
When we first saw the weather forecast, we were a little bummed to see nonstop rain. Luckily, the rain held back and the remaining fog was the perfect element to a city session.
The grit and texture of St. Ann’s Warehouse gave us such an amazing backdrop. This mix of textures and colors were so inspiring and complimented Kristy and Steve’s looks perfectly!
Exploring this hidden garden area exposed what might have been a romantic proposal or an elopement from the night before. We couldn’t resist taking advantage of the moment and utilizing the trail of rose petals.
From here we decided to walk the rest of the way to the Brooklyn Bridge. Enjoying the beautiful views along the way, we continued our walk over the bridge to Manhattan.
If you are ever in the area, I highly recommend a sunrise visit to DUMBO and the Brooklyn Bridge! You won’t regret it!
